Comfrey contains high levels of allantoin, which promotes rapid cell division and in turn rapid healing. Since comfrey is a potent herb, only a small amount is needed. Their livers do not have the necessary enzymes to break down and excrete certain chemical compounds in essential oils. The chemical compounds can accumulate in a cat's body and build up to toxic levels.
